This is the first non-suppressing lightener to dissolve over-stimulated pigment from the epidermis to the dermis. An enzyme from trees, this unique ingredient has shown to give significant improvement by day 28, which is a third of the time of other lighteners. Such lighteners include kojic, arbutin, hydroquinone, licorice, etc. The other nice benefit is that it is not photo-sensitizing, meaning you can use it all summer long with no worry.
Touted as one of the hottest areas of research in our field, DNA repair ingredients cover Ultrasomes, Roxisomes, Photosomes, and Unirepair (Acetyle Tyrosine, Proline and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein & Adenosine Triphosphate), with even more to come in the near future. Rebuilding the base structure of the DNA strand allowing it to replicate properly, these ingredients also help to maintain cell longevity.
A Dipeptide shown to counteract free radicals and prevent peroxidation of cell membranes to prevent and inhibit glycation activity. It basically prevents the degradation of skin cells by sugar, a process known as Glycation. This is another area of research that we will sure be hearing about in the next few years.
An active, glycosaminoglycan secretion generated by the snail during times of stress, that can regenerate damaged structures of the animal’s skin in less than 48 hours.
Results equivalent or superior to results from similar studies of HGFs (Human Growth Factors). Results also showed in not only collagen, but ELASTIN, hyaluronic acid. If that wasn’t impressive enough, it also showed a 50% decrease in lines in 90 days.
Stem cells are an interesting area of research that I hope continues to show promise even more. Often used now are swiss apple stem cells. They have been shown to activate telomerase to extend the health and life of the cells. They also increase cell turnover to promote collagen and elastin. Lastly, they protect skin cells from UV radiation and future damage.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (Argireline)
If we could put botox in an ingredient, this would be it. This peptide is unique in that it relaxes wrinkles by relaxing facial tension, similar in the same way as injections, except it is a lot weaker. Studies have shown, in a 10% concentration, it has reduced wrinkles up to 30% in 30 days. I love having this ingredient for around the eye area, where my lines are muscle induced.
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 (matrixyl)
Another powerful peptide, this peptide increases overall collagen production, the production of collagen IV and hyaluronic acid synthesis in the skin, and wound healing.
It is claimed that palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 is as good at reducing wrinkles, but without the side effects of a retinoid.
There are so many more I could list, but the future is bright in what we can do for the skin beyond the typical retinoids or acids. I will keep people posted as more information and science become available. As for me, I’m enjoying what I’m seeing in the mirror!
