Best Natural vs. Synthetic Injectables

Firm, smooth, youthful skin doesn’t last forever. It has an expiration date that each of us moves towards as we age. You don’t have to take this lying down, however. There are many cosmetic solutions designed to take the visible sting out of getting older. Among them are many natural and synthetic injectables. Considering one? Before you choose, take some time to compare:

Botox

Botox is derived from a toxin called botulinum A, a product of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.. Botox is well known for reducing facial lines, creases, and grooves for a few months after treatment. Botox works by blocking nerve signals that cause facial muscles to contract and form all of those lines in the first place.

Xeomin

Xeomin works like Botox, relaxing facial muscles and heading off those distressing frown lines. An alternative to Botox, it also has the botulism toxin as its active ingredient. Unlike Botox, however, Xeomin is naked, which basically means it doesn’t have a bunch of additives. Why does this matter? Some people develop antibodies to the additives in injectables, resulting in treatment failure. With fewer ingredients, this is less likely to happen.

Radiesse

This synthetic dermal filler has calcium hydroxyapatite as its active ingredient, a mineral that is naturally present in the body. Radiesse plumps and smoothes the skin, producing effects that can last for an entire year. It works for prominent lines, grooves, and some types of scarring. Potential side effects include redness and swelling which go away after a few hours. Redness for a bit compared to a plump, smooth face…fine by me!

Juvederm

This synthetic filler is biodegradable, contains hyaluronic acid as its active ingredient, and effectively provides more youthful-looking skin for about six months to a year post treatment. It can plump up areas with pronounced lines and furrows and help get rid of those fine but annoying lines that form around the eyes and the mouth. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in our bodies, which is a selling point if you prefer more natural options. It also promotes skin hydration, encouraging healthy skin overall.

Fat Transfer—
This is a treatment that we, as a collective group, have decided not to do at FACE at this time. For a natural and significant increase in volume, you can opt for a fat transfer. With this option, fat is taken from one part of your body and transferred to your face to plump up problem areas. As a result, you can usually expect a change that looks natural and lasts for a long period of time.

Collagen Injections:

Collagen is another natural option, although it is completely outdated and only lasts around 3 months. It’s naturally present in the body and helps give your skin its firm, youthful appearance. In time, however, the aging process leads to gradual loss of collagen. You can replace it with natural dermal fillers consisting of human or bovine collagen. Potential side effects include redness in the area, itching, and the occasional allergic reaction.

Botox and Xeomin are more synthetic and work in the muscle. If you are somebody that has no health problems, you won’t worry about using them because no real threats have been documented. However, if you are someone with chronic health problems, cancer, heart disease etc…we strongly recommend against using ANYTHING synthetic in your lifestyle so to reduce your overall toxic burden. In this case, you will want to opt for more natural fillers that work into the skin but provide hyaluronic acid and calcium which we already contain in our skin.

Synthetic injectables such as Botox and Xeomin work within the muscles. They both block the nerve signals, which send signals to the facial muscles that cause contractions which create those fine line that we are fighting to get rid of. If you are somebody that has no health problems, you won’t need to worry about using them because no real threats have been documented. However, if you are someone with chronic health problems, cancer, heart disease…we strongly recommend against using ANYTHING synthetic in your lifestyle. In fact, we encourage our clients to reduce your overall toxic burden and opt toward a more healthier, natural approach to anti-aging treatments. We suggest our products which use natural fillers that work into the skin but provide hyaluronic acid and calcium which we already contain in our bodies make up.

Our clients that want more natural injectables veer toward Restylane and Perlane, and Juvederm to soften those oh so pesky fine facial lines. Because these products use ingredients that already exist in our bodies, there is something quite reassuring about the fact that nothing foreign is entering our system.

Make sure, however, that you discuss the whole process with one of our RN’s or Nurse injectors who will consult with you as to what your best options would be. With so many different anti-aging products out there, instead of worrying about your fine lines and wrinkles, your biggest problem will be deciding which product to use!
